Harrods is looking for a talented and motivated Senior Editorial Print Designer to join our Publishing team on a 12-month fixed term contract basis (August 2024 - August 2025) to deliver high-quality creative work across the full Harrods print publication portfolio (Harrods Magazine, Harrods Man, Home, Estates & various supplements).

The successful candidate must be used to working in a fast paced team as well as being self-motivated, articulate and able to manage multiple projects/requests independently.

About the Role

This role is seeing the magazine process from ideation to print as well as acting as a deputy for the Art Director when absent. Delivering high quality design, liaising with the photography/production departments and sub-editing teams whilst coordinating and managing tasks to ensure publishing deadlines are met. This role will sit within the Creative Content division and report to the Art Director.

You will be able to successfully understand and interpret briefs in order to adhere to business needs as well as being aware of the publications wider look and feel. During quieter periods of magazine production, you will be required to work on other briefs within the wider Harrods Creative team and be comfortable working across multiple projects with different team stakeholders.

Other responsibilities and attributes include:

  • Excellent layout skills and great typography knowledge.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is essential.
  • You will work closely with the art director and junior designer to design and maintain the magazines look and feel on regular features as well as more conceptual layouts.
  • You will work across a wide team including section editors, picture editors and the production teams to produce great layouts and adhere to the workflow.
  • Along with the art director you will act as an ambassador for the art department and be involved in all editorial content meetings to ensure the wider team are updated of the design status of the pages when required.
  • Liaise with the wider team in chasing content that might be required to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ensure all pages are checked thoroughly before they are sent to press – and liaise with the production and repro team.
  • At times it will be a fast-paced environment in which you will be required to multi-task and take initiative to support on reactive requests delivering prompt results and methodically prioritising tasks effectively.

About You

You will have good knowledge and a passion for magazine design, typography, photography and illustration. You will ideally have previous experience working on a leading publication, post production including image mark ups, colour correction, approvals and art finalizing of pages.

  • Experience of the retail or luxury sector.
  • Ability to think laterally and creatively to come up with great design solutions quickly and effectively in a demanding and challenging environment.
  • Being extremely well organised and good at managing and juggling projects across publications – big and small.
  • You’ll be a natural and proactive problem solver.
  • You’ll be methodical, agile and thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • Have the skills to think outside the box and solve problems, not just be an artworker.
  • Have enthusiasm about an idea and bring people along with you.
  • Have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Successful team-management experience would be preferred but is not essential.
  • Confident using the full Adobe Suite.
