We are recruiting for a Food Safety Manager to join our Food Safety Team here at Harrods. 

About the Role 

Reporting into the Head of Food Safety & Technical, this role promotes positive food safety culture across our Food Halls, Restaurants and Production Kitchens through maintaining the Food Safety and Quality Management system. As a Food Safety Manager you will implement the food safety strategy, ensuring compliance of food safety, legal and integrity of Harrods Made in House products, Harrods run Restaurants, production areas and storage and distribution centres as well as food halls. 

With 6 direct reports across Food Safety and Quality Assurance, you will be responsible for keeping your team engaged with a commitment to development and succession planning. You will be accountable for training the team on and upholding standard operating procedures, including food hygiene and allergen management – both within your direct team structure as well as stakeholders across the business. 

You will manage the implementation and accuracy of the internal audit schedule across the business in line with company policy and current legislative requirements and best practice. Your duties will also include: 

  • Ensuring that the People Review process is adhered to.
  • Building effective and collaborative working relationships with cross functional stakeholders including buying, kitchens, restaurants etc. 
  • Communicating the expected food safety standards and KPIs to the team; monitor and address any concerns in line with company procedures.
  • Assisting the Head of Food Safety and Technical with annual budget proposals.
  • Providing competent and professional food safety advice to the business in the absence of the Head of Food Safety and Technical, thereby ensuring that professional advice is available at all times.
  • Being the contact point for Government agencies including Primary Authority, other Local Authorities and Food Standards Agency in the absence of Head of Food Safety and Technical.
  • Ensuring accurate allergen/product and calorie information on products are available to customers and in line with legislation and company policy.

About You 

The ideal candidate will be an established people manager within a Food Safety team, possessing a degree in Food Safety or equivalent with good knowledge of microbiology and food safety and quality management systems.

Hailing from a Restaurant or Manufacturing background, you will possess strong food safety knowledge relevant to Restaurants and Retail operations. 

You will ideally hold a Lead Auditor qualification and a good competency HACCP, either at level 3 or level 4. In addition to this you will have demonstrable knowledge of working with local authority and other enforcement agencies, IEHO is desirable though not essential. 

You will also possess:

  • Proficiency in Good Hygiene training is desirable. 
  • Strong people manager with a track record of developing teams.
  • A customer service focus when dealing with both internal and external parties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Brilliant time-management skills and the ability and willingness to multi-task.
  • Flexibility and readiness to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good attention to detail which will be evident through paperwork completed, organisation of department and sufficient stock levels.
  • Ability to perform duties effectively with minimum supervision and guidance.
